Why might Zoya mark some holdings non-compliant in funds already certified as shariah compliant?
Why might Zoya mark some holdings non-compliant in funds already certified as shariah compliant?
Updated over a year ago

Zoya uses a variation of the AAOIFI screening methodology to screen holdings, which may result in some holdings being marked as Non-Compliant or Questionable. This is because there are different accepted standards and methodologies for determining shariah compliance. The screening used in Zoya represents one approach, but not the only one.

If a fund has been certified compliant by a reputable shariah board, we make that clear in the app while also showing Zoya's screening results. This provides transparency so users can make informed decisions aligned with their personal principles. The classifications in Zoya are not intended to supersede a fund's official shariah compliance certification.
